Essay on Mass Media Coverage of Presidential Election
nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;Mass media coverage of the U.S. presidential election involves two key elements- news reporting and paid advertising. Combined they make the media an important and influential factor in the election process. The media depends upon the campaigns for both news and revenues. The candidates then rely upon the media to get in touch with the largest number of voters possible. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; The Media has a ââ¬Å" very powerful and justifiable roleâ⬠(Fullerton-1) to play in presidential elections and can actually dictate a campaign agenda. ââ¬Å"It is the mediaââ¬â¢s job to sort of be the watchdog (Fullerton-1).â⬠Their job is basically to ferret out the truth and sniff out theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬Å"Such shows really impact the viewing audience due to the voters chance at speaking directly to the candidate and expressing their own views.â⬠(Gorin-1) nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; The presidential debates are probably the most important media events covered in a campaign because voters can see how candidates react in stressful situations and can read numerous articles analyzing the debate after they occur. The debates basically allow the candidates to go head to head with one another and see who can handle themselves more efficiently and who has the most going for them. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; As far as coverage, newspapers usually provide more material to the campaign than does television, due to the large amount of reporters able to cover the campaign as well as less cost and time restraints as TV. Newspapers also have the benefit of ââ¬Å"corrective journalismâ⬠(Gorin-2). ââ¬Å"Instead of printing a candidateââ¬â¢s statement one day, an oppositions rebuttal the next and a related opinion piece the third day, journalists have the capability to include charges, countercharges, background research and analysis all in the same article. nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;nbsp; However, Louis Wolfson, a professor at American University says ââ¬Å" In a larger sense, I donââ¬â¢t think the media sent the agenda for a campaign he said. I think the politicians do, because they try to campaign on the issues they are going to be most successful with and to avoid the onesShow MoreRelatedMedia Coverage on Presidential Candidates 1194 Words à |à 5 Pages Both campaign contributions and media coverage has significant power to determine the success of a presidential candidate, and each of them seems to be interconnected with each other. The year 1930 was a landmark in history because Northwest moved their home base operation to their present headquarters in St. Paul. The air service grew overnight with the acquisition of Southern Airways in 1936. Northwestââ¬â¢s famous red tail was introduced for the first time on February 1948. The reason why Northwest selected a red tail is because the majority of flights flew over the northern hemisphere. If a flight were to have an accident in snowy surroundings the red tail would easily identify the aircraft. Expansion efforts continue throughout the system but the largest and most significant expansion happened on January 6, 1986. Northwest agrees to purchase Republic Airways and Northwest employees increased from 17,000 employees to approximately 33,000 over night. Northwest continues to expand service in both European and southeastern Asian countries. In 1993, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines purchases 51% of Northwestââ¬â¢s common stock making KLM an owner and a code-sharing partner. Northwest finds that code sharing is beneficial towards the coverage of and expansion of their service so northwest acquire alliances with China Air, Continental Airlines, and Alaska Airlines to name a few. Northwest is still looking to expand their service coverage by obtaining new routes. OpinionNorthwest Airlines has proved that their dedication to superior air service will be their main objective. My experience with Northwest has been very positive. I was able to travel to twelve different countries so far in my career and that alone is such a fulfilling accomplishment by it self. Finally, my expectation for the future of the company is very high. Many different innovations in the operation will propel the organization forward to meet and exceed customer expectation. Moreover, constancy and reliability will not only increase profits, but also, create customer satisfaction. .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 , .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 .postImageUrl , .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 , .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717:hover , .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717:visited , .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717:active { border:0!important; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717:active , .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717 .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u8a58eeb5253cb16d69937a79daf65717:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Lord Of The Flies: Golding Reduces The Power Of His Message EssayFinancial StatementsStock PlotBibliographyBibliography1. http://www.nwa.com/corpinfo/profin/vision2.
